maybe you want to remove the volume partitions icons on your Gnome desktop, if you want to do only follow this steps:
- Run Gconf-editor (use ALT-F2 and type gconf-editor or type gconf-editor on a terminal)
- in gconf-editor browse to apps - - >nautilus - - >desktop in the mini explorer folders window
- Uncheck the volumes_visible option
close gconf-editor application and ready you will not see the icons.
